Assistant Commissioner of Commercial Tax Praises GST for Addressing Long-standing Tax Avoidance Issues

Assistant Commissioner of Commercial Tax, Mahesh Patil, hailed the Goods and Services Tax (GST) as a monumental achievement in India’s tax history, remarking that it has transformed the nation’s tax collection framework significantly.

“Taxes serve as a crucial revenue stream for governmental operations. Unfortunately, various commercial entities, including large corporations, have historically engaged in tax evasion, detrimentally impacting a nation’s progress. However, GST has effectively mitigated this persistent issue of tax avoidance,” stated Mr. Patil during a GST workshop held at B.V. Bhoomaraddi Degree College in Bidar.

Addressing attendees, Commercial Tax Officer Ashok S. emphasized the significance of registration and timely return filing.

Encouraging students to uphold their tax responsibilities diligently, he stressed the importance of contributing to both income and commercial taxes.

Shivakumar Swamy, another representative from the Commercial Tax Department, highlighted the importance of vigilance and the implementation of e-way bills in tax administration.

He emphasized that the integration of digital technology has simplified the tax payment process, enabling individuals to fulfill their tax obligations conveniently through various online payment methods from the comfort of their homes or offices.
